Is it ever a good idea to represent yourself in divorce? What if you have no money?
The outcome of your divorce will affect every aspect of your future. The simple fact of the matter is that no divorcing person is going to be able to competently represent themselves. Most will do significant harm. So you should only consider representing yourself if you have nothing to lose–no children, no property–and are hoping to get things over with as quickly and cheaply as possible.
Otherwise, do whatever you can to afford an attorney. The right lawyer can work with you regarding payments. But if you go it alone, you could be paying for the rest of your life.
