My ex has a violent temper. We are in the process of divorcing. Recently, he was at my house and became enraged, smashing holes in the walls and breaking some of my things. Can I make him pay for this? What can I do?
There are two separate issues here, both of which you should address with the help and guidance of a family law attorney. The first is your basic safety. Someone who flies off the handle like this poses a threat to you and any children you have. You may need to seek a protective order. The second is the damage to your property. Document it with photos, and write in detail what happened and on what date. If there are any witnesses, get a statement from them, too. You may be able to petition the court for repair or replacement, but you need to talk to your lawyer first.
